Dubai has never shied away from ambitious infrastructure, and its latest concept may be its most imaginative yet. The Loop is a proposed 93-kilometer climate-controlled corridor for walking and cycling, designed to wrap around the city and redefine how residents move, live and connect.

A City Built Around People, Not Cars

Conceived by architecture studio URB, The Loop is envisioned as a mixed-use indoor pathway for cyclists and pedestrians that would encircle Dubai's outskirts. The aim is to encourage Dubai's three million residents to shift from cars to healthier, more sustainable modes of transport, with URB describing the ambition to make Dubai the most connected city on earth by foot or bike. This shift supports the emirate's broader 20-minute city initiative, prioritizing accessibility and well-being across every neighbourhood it touches. 

Engineering A Year-Round Comfortable Climate

If built, the corridor would be encased within a glazed tube, complete with a kinetic floor that generates energy with every step taken. Inside, the structure would house wellness areas, fitness stations, sports courts, parks, playgrounds and even wellness hotels, creating a destination in its own right rather than a simple transit route. Movement across the walkway is designed to actively power the structure itself, making human motion part of its sustainability model. 

Connecting Dubai's Most Desirable Districts

The proposed route traces a path through some of Dubai's most sought-after communities, including Jebel Ali, JLT, Dubai Marina, Al Quoz, Business Bay, Downtown Dubai and DIFC, before continuing through Meydan, Academic City, Dubailand, Sustainable City and Expo City. For a market built on location and lifestyle, a corridor of this scale would create a new layer of connectivity between neighbourhoods that residents and investors already prize. 

A Long-Term Ambition For A Greener Dubai

The Loop is intended to become the world's most advanced infrastructure for cycling and walking, combining innovations such as kinetic paving with vertical green spaces to support urban biodiversity. The project remains in its planning and research phase and has yet to be fully approved, though it forms part of the city's wider vision for a more walkable, sustainable future.
